Atualmente, são produzidos milhões de toneladas de Politereftalato de etileno por ano. Esta resina, popularmente conhecida como PET, vem apresentando índices de reciclagem cada vez mais altos.

Millions of tons of ethylene politereftalate are produced each year. This resin, popularly known as PET, is having ever higher recycling rates. The growing concern with this theme can be associated with the problems derived from the accumulation of plastic materials in sanitary landfills, or even in nature; and with the very high degradation period of these materials - about 400 years. It is necessary, therefore, to look for alternatives to use the recycling potential of this material.
